Uganda’s Logistics Sector Gets Boost with New Kampala Logistics Hub

Story

KAMPALA, UGANDA – In a bid to improve efficiency and reduce costs in the logistics sector, a new state-of-the-art logistics hub has been launched in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. The hub, built by private logistics company, Uganda Logistics Solutions (ULS), is expected to revolutionize the way goods are transported and stored in the country.

The Kampala Logistics Hub, located on a 10-acre site near the city’s industrial area, offers a range of services including warehousing, freight forwarding, customs clearance, and distribution. The facility is equipped with modern technology, including automated warehouse management systems and real-time tracking.

According to ULS Managing Director, Mark Mwesigwa, the hub aims to address the challenges faced by businesses in Uganda, including high transportation costs, long delivery times, and inadequate storage facilities.

“The logistics sector in Uganda has been hindered by inefficiencies and high costs, which have made it difficult for businesses to compete regionally and globally,” Mwesigwa said. “Our hub is designed to provide a one-stop-shop for logistics services, reducing costs and increasing efficiency for our clients.”

The hub has already attracted major clients, including international companies operating in Uganda. The government has also expressed support for the initiative, recognizing the potential impact on the economy.

“This is a game-changer for Uganda’s logistics sector,” said Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner General, John Musinguzi. “We expect to see significant improvements in trade facilitation, reduced costs, and increased competitiveness for Ugandan businesses.”

The launch of the Kampala Logistics Hub is part of a larger effort to improve Uganda’s logistics infrastructure, which includes upgrades to roads, ports, and airports. The government aims to reduce transportation costs and increase trade volumes, making Uganda a regional logistics hub.
